The club, as it is
now, started around 1971. It had existed before as a chapter of New England United Fly Tyer's, but spun off
as an independent club in 1971.
Tying classes were started by Joe Berkowicz. They have run continuously since WMFF split off from
United Fly Tyers in 1971. The classes were likely held before that date under UFT, but we don't know for how long.
Originally there were seperate classes for adults and children. The adult classes were dropped for a few years, but
then combined with the children's classes.
Long time members still active today include, Dan Trela, Marty Frisbe,
Ed Jaciow, Joe Abdow, Bob Jendrysik, Jim Leonard and Bill Adams.
Purpose is to promote fly tying as a sport, introduce
youngsters to fly fishing and fly tying, and promote conservation of our natural resources.
Educating adults and children over nine years of age, through
our free fly tying classes starting on the second Thursday in January and continuing for eight consecutive Thursdays
