Photos from the seventh night of our 2009 Fly Tying Class. thirty four people signed up for
the classes this year. Here are some of their photos taken during the seventh class.
In photos where students
are looking ahead, instructor Manny DaSilva was tying the fly while the process was being projected above and
behind him. Tom Panaccione or Bill Adams had a camera trained on the vice and fly. It was projected so that all students could
follow the step-by-step process. Manny, or another instructor was tying at the time, in most cases each fly was
first tied as the students observed the process. The instructor then tied the fly as the students tied along,
step-by step. Students seemed to have more success tying various flies using this method.
During the
tying process several club members roam the room to assist students as necessary. As the students progress with their
tying skills we offer suggestions and tell students to experiment with various techniques on their own. As long as the
fish thinks the fly looks like part of a meal you will catch fish, or so the theory goes.
