May 18, 2009 Meeting

Markelle Smith

Western Massachusetts

Land Protection Specialist

The Nature Conservancy

The speaker at our May 18, 2009 meeting was Markelle Smith.  Markelle is a Western Massachusetts Land Protection Specialist, with the Nature Conservancy.  Markelle gave a very interesting presentation about an invasive insect which has become a severe problem in the Worcester Area.  The Asian Longhorned Beetle is a very destructive insect with no natural enemies in North America.  Markelle provided a link to inform us about this destructive insect.
*** It is very important to report sighting of this insect. ***
Take a picture or capture a specimen to verify the sighting.  What ever you do, do not transport this insect to other areas.
